    Ping and jitter test

    Runs locally

Press start and leave the test running while you game, stream or download to see how your connection behaves under load.

    Latency to server regions

Measured with HTTPS requests to Amazon Web Services data centers. Values are a few milliseconds higher than a game's UDP ping.

    How to use

    1. Press start. A small request is sent to our server at the selected interval and the round-trip time is drawn on the graph.
    2. Leave it running for a minute or two. Red lines on the graph are lost requests.
    3. Start a download or a video on another device to see how much the latency rises under load (bufferbloat).
    4. Use "Measure regions" to find the nearest cloud data centers; many online games run their servers there.

    Frequently asked questions

What are good values for gaming?

Ping under 40 ms, jitter under 5 ms and no packet loss are excellent. Up to 80 ms ping and 10 ms jitter is fine for most games. Packet loss above 1 % causes rubber-banding and lag spikes.

Why is this ping higher than in the command line?

Browsers cannot send ICMP or UDP packets, so the test uses short HTTPS requests. These add a few milliseconds of processing. Use the values to compare over time rather than against a game's own ping display.

Can I ping a specific game server?

Not directly from a browser. The region table measures the cloud data centers where many game servers are hosted, which is a good estimate for the nearest server.
