Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
MP3 plays everywhere. M4A (AAC) and Opus sound better at the same size. WAV and FLAC are lossless; FLAC is about half the size of WAV.
Does converting improve quality?
No. Converting a low-quality MP3 to FLAC or WAV only makes the file bigger. Choose lossless formats only when the source is lossless.
What bitrate is enough?
128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps for most music and 256–320 kbps for critical listening. Opus sounds good at about half these values.
