    How to use

    1. Use headphones; binaural sound only works when each ear gets its own channel.
    2. Pick "Circle" to hear the sound travel around your head, or drag the dot to place it.
    3. Switch the rendering to "Stereo" to hear the difference between plain panning and 3D audio.
    4. Start the quiz: listen to each sound and click the direction it comes from. Eight rounds give your accuracy.

    Frequently asked questions

Why does the sound seem to come from inside my head?

Binaural rendering uses an average head shape (HRTF). If your ears differ a lot from it, sounds can feel close or inside the head, and front and back are easy to mix up.

Front and back sound the same to me.

This is the most common confusion in 3D audio, even for real sounds without head movement. Noise bursts are easier to place than pure tones. If left and right are also mixed up, check that the headphones are worn the right way round.

Does this test Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic?

No. The page renders 3D audio itself and sends normal stereo to your headphones. Turn off system spatial sound effects for a clean result.
