Frequently asked questions
What can a photo reveal?
Phones and cameras store the exact GPS position, the date and time, the device model, sometimes its serial number and the owner name. Anyone who gets the original file can read it.
Do social networks remove it?
Most big networks remove EXIF from public photos, but files sent by email, cloud links, forums or some messaging apps often keep it.
Is the quality reduced?
No. For JPG, PNG and WebP only the data sections are removed; the image data is copied unchanged. The color profile and the photo orientation are kept. HEIC and other formats are saved as a high-quality JPG.
